Vigil Held For Fallen Officer

LIVONIA (WWJ) – City officials called it a “Celebration of Life”, to honor Livonia Police Officer Larry Nehasil, who was gunned down Monday in a shoot-out with a burglary suspect in Walled Lake.

Hundreds of mourners turned out Wednesday night at the Livonia City Hall auditorium for a vigil honoring the fallen police officer.

Larry Nehasil’s brother Craig spoke during the vigil. He says his brother Larry loved his job and the guys he worked with, calling them a band of brothers. Craig also expressed his thanks to the community: “I appreciate the show of support from the whole community. It’s been phenomenal for our family, and we appreciate everything everyone has done.”

Larry Nehasil’s nephew Richard also addressed the crowd, saying, “I really respect that everybody notices how my uncle died a hero, but what you all don’t understand is that he lived a hero.”

The funeral for Officer Nehasil is scheduled for Friday.
