The 100-vehicle procession tied up traffic for a bit, as it departed the funeral home on Six Mile, east of Newburgh.   The procession continued east on Six Mile to Farmington Road, heading south on Farmington Road,

passing by Livonia City Hall and the police department before veering west on I-96 to Plymouth and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, at the Beck Road exit of M-14 in Plymouth.

A portion of Farmington Road near the Livonia Police Station will be closed to all traffic for a short time to accommodate the procession.

Wayne County Sheriff's deputies took over all runs in Livonia Friday, to allow Livonia officers the opportunity to attend the funeral for Officer Larry Nehasil who was shot to death while trying to arrest a burglary suspect Monday evening  in Walled Lake.

WWJ's Mike Campbell spoke with Bill Selick, who retired to Livonia after 25 years on the Detroit Police force.

"I went to see him last night, to pay my respects for an officer," Selick said.

Selick says he lost a partner early in his career, and he grew to accept the potential for death as part of the job. Selick says it's hard to say anything at a time like this that can comfort the family of the fallen officer. Instead, he offers good wishes for his fellow cops still working.

"You only hope that, police officers that are on the job now, they survive their 25 years and that they enjoy their retirement," he said.

A memorial fund has been set up for Officer Nehasil's family. Donations can be made in person at any Huntington National Bank or mailed to:
