Fatal Accident On Lodge Freeway

Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly accident led to the closure of the Lodge Freeway, M-10, for several hours Saturday morning.

The wreck happened around 4 a.m. and involved a driver going northbound in the southbound lanes.

Michigan State Police Sergeant Nathaniel McQueen says, "The driver of the vehicle, uh , that was traveling in the wrong direction going northbound in the southbound lanes is a female from the city of Detroit , approximately 43 years of age .  She is currently hospitalized in a local hospital at this time receiving treatment for injuries that she sustained."

The victim is a 26-year old man from Southfield.  McQueen says  alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

"A situation like this is very unfortunate ,um, someone had to lose their life in it because of the negligence of one individual who was driving the wrong way on the freeway, but we are again gathering all of the facts so that we can present that to the prosecuting attorney's office."

The freeway, which was closed between Seven Mile and Wyoming, re-opened at 9 a.m.
