Wings Fall 4-1 To Blackhawks

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) In his debut NHL game, the Detroit Red Wings' Cory Emmerton scored his first professional goal and the Wings only goal of the game in a 4-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, Saturday at Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit's Jimmy Howard started strong before struggling a little and finishing with 29 saves.

"When you give up four goals, there is no excuse, you're not going to win most nights." Said Wings goalie Jimmy Howard after the loss."(Chicago) drew on the net, they got inside the D (defense) and battled for position." Howard stated in a matter of fact manner, making no excuses for the loss, despite the numerous injuries the Wings are facing.

Emmerton's goal gave Detroit the lead midway through the first. Dave Bolland tied the game later in the period and Kopecky scored two times in the second against his former team to make it 3-1.

Troy Brouwer finished the scoring for defending champion Chicago, which is on a 5-0-1 streak. The banged-up Red Wings have won two of their last six.
