Southfield (WWJ) – Frigid temperatures and a tough economy are bringing an even greater focus to families struggling to survive this winter. That’s why members of THAW (The Heat and Warmth Fund), along with other groups, are heading to Washington next month to lobby for our state’s energy assistance funding – which has already seen a 40 percent cut.

But before going to the nation’s capitol, THAW CEO Susan Sherer says they’re first working to get all the help they can, right here at home.

“We’re hoping to certainly mobilize the community around our Winter Survival Radiothon, um, we think that that is … another way that we can get the community involved in supporting from a funding level. We always call out annually to the community to support this, and they have stepped up mightily every year,” Sherer told WWJ Newsradio 950.

WWJ will broadcast live from the Detroit Science Center, beginning at 5am Friday until noon Saturday, to help raise money for THAW. Visit WWJ.com to find out how you can help.
