Oscar Nominations To Be Announced This Morning

LOS ANGELES (WWJ) - The nominations for the 83rd annual Academy Awards will be announced this morning.

CBS' Steve Futterman reports from Los Angeles that the battle for the Oscar begins in earnest today as nominations are announced. Ten films will be nominated for the top prize: Best Picture.

But, many believe this could come down to a battle between just two: The Social Network, which tells the story of the formation of Facebook; and The King's Speech, which tells the story of King George overcoming a speech impediment.

Among the performers, Colin Firth, who has the title role in The King's Speech, seems guaranteed to receive a Best Actor nomination, while Natalie Portman seems to be the favorite for Best Actress for her role in Black Swan.

The nominations will be announced live from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. Listen live on WWJ Newsradio 950. A podcast will be posted on CBS Detroit.com.
