Local pizza makers have been dealing with a problem in recent months. No pans.

Patti Domasicwicz, of People’s Restaurant Equipment Company, says the supplier that makes the square pans used to bake pan pizza was relocated and has since been having production problems.

“Last April we were notified the company that we were getting them from, that was Dover Parkersburg, was moving their plant to Mexico and they would be shipping them back here to the states for distribution.  Every time we’d call, we keep getting a new date of when they will be ready,” she said.

Domasicwicz says the idea for pan pizza came out of Detroit, using pans originally made to store auto parts. 

Now, she says, she has been taking calls from people as far away as Oregon and Washington State looking for these pans — but nobody seems to make them except this company.

“It’s a blue steel, and it’s just like cast iron pans.  They have to be treated, and it has to be a certain size and thickness in order for it to cool properly to get the pizza that everybody’s enjoyed for years,” Domasicwicz said.

The supplier has accumulated nearly 5,000 back-orders for the pans.
