Wolverines Upset Spartans At The Breslin
EAST LANSING (WWJ) It was a big win on the road for the Wolverines, as they beat the Spartans in East Lansing, Thursday night, 61-57.
Wolverine Stu Douglass scored only 6 points but had the hot hand late in the game when the Wolverines needed it the most to give UM a five point lead, as he hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the game. Talking post-game on WWJ about the big play, "It's huge, we needed a big win, we played for 40 minutes tough, we needed the win," Douglass said.
Zack Novak had 19 points and Darius Morris had 17 points to contribute to the UM win.
Speaking court side on WWJ about the win, "It's a good moment to get that albatross off our backs," Wolverine coach John Beilein added, "we really played very good defense in the end."
Kalin Lucus had 27 points for the Spartans but it wasn't enough, Durrell Summers 13 points and Draymond Green 9 points for MSU.
The Wolverines had not won inside the Breslin Center since January 1997.
The loss put No. 25 Michigan State University to 12-8, while University of Michigan goes to 12-9.
