Fugitive Will Be Returned To Michigan

DETROIT (WWJ) A fugitive is headed to Michigan to face charges for allegedly forcing Eastern European woman to become strippers.

Prosecutors say the suspect Veniamin Gonikman agreed to the transfer Friday during a brief court appearance in New York. He was flown into the city on Thursday night following his capture in Ukraine.

Veniamin Gonikman, 55, was charged in Detroit in 2005 in a 22-count indictment with trafficking in persons, forced labor, alien smuggling, money laundering, extortion collection, and conspiracy, among other charges.

He absconded from the U.S. before being formally charged.

The  indictment accuses Gonikman of using a Detroit business called Beauty Search Inc. as a front to lure women into servitude.
