Legislature Back To Tackle Budget Issues

LANSING (WWJ) The Michigan Legislature is back to work and the problem that's been stalking the state, the budget issue, is still there.

The new state budget director John Nixon says he's looking to see if any tax loopholes can be closed.

"It's a problem that will be with us until the economy improves and hiring picks up again. The state budget deficit has been pegged at $1.8 billion but that figure is not engraved in stone it could get worse," says Nixon.

The Mackinaw Center for Public Policy says the actual deficit is over $2 billion and that's just for the coming year.
