Pat Caputo: If Anything, Brady Hoke Is Outrecruiting Mark Dantonio

As national signing day approaches for college football, Michigan and Michigan State appear about even in regard to the quality of their recruiting classes.

In the past, this would have qualified as a major triumph for the Spartans.

This time, however, it will probably be more of a disappointment for MSU.

If there was ever a recruiting season MSU should be getting the best of the Wolverines, this is it.

Michigan State is coming off an 11-victory season and a share of the Big Ten championship. After four seasons, Mark Dantonio has established himself as a true force as MSU's head coach, and has spent the last few years acing out the Wolverines when it comes to some of the better recruits in this state.

Brady Hoke, who replaced Rich Rodriguez as the Wolverines' head football coach, was not hired until Jan.11, giving him precious little time to salvage this year's recruiting class. Also, the overall perception of Michigan's football program has taken a severe hit. Michigan football has been a divided family, and experienced little success on the field. This was the only season of Rodriguez's three UM made a bowl game - and his team was routed 42-14 by Mississippi State.
