DETROIT (WWJ) – Two men who dreamed for years of buying Baker’s Keyboard Lounge have seen that dream come true.
Longtime friends Eric Whitaker and Hugh Smith were the winning bidders for the historic club, at Eight Mile and Livernois in Detroit, offering $395,000 for the club. The club’s former owner had filed for bankruptcy.
In its heyday, countless jazz fans flocked to the historic club to hear performances from the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane.
The new owners say the jazz music will play on at Baker’s.
