Comcast Launches 40 HD Channels To Hillsdale Area



Comcast Corp., Michigan's No. 1 cable TV provider, announced the addition of 40 new High Definition (HD) channels to its lineup in area Hillsdale communities. 

The launch of new HD programming was made possible by the company's ongoing digital network enhancement. 

With the recent service enhancement, customers in Hillsdale and the surrounding communities of Adams, Allen, Cambria, Fayette, Jefferson, Jonesville, North Adams, Pittsford and Scipio now have access to HD channels, along with more than 3,000 HD On Demand choices a month.

As part of its "World of More" digital upgrade, Comcast digitized its Expanded Basic lineup in Hillsdale over the past two months to clear the way for additional HD and On Demand programming, faster Internet speeds and other interactive digital services. 

Comcast's digital network enhancement was launched in spring 2009 in Michigan and is expected to be completed this spring. As part of this upgrade, the company has been providing up to two digital adapters for current digital cable customers at no additional cost.  Current analog Standard Cable customers are eligible to receive one digital set-top box and two digital adapters at no additional cost. With digital equipment now installed in the vast majority of Comcast customers' homes in Hillsdale and surrounding communities, the company has completed the process of increasing the capacity of its fiber optic network and the expanded the programming received by its customers.

"After assisting local customers obtain their digital equipment in recent weeks, we're very excited to deliver expanded products and services to our Hillsdale-area customers," said Mary Beth Halprin, vice president of public relations and community affairs for Comcast in Michigan. "We already offer customers more HD programming than any other provider -- with more than 3,000 HD choices a month -- and we are thrilled to now also provide these customers new options in our HD lineup."

The 40 HD channels recently added to the Hillsdale lineup include: channel 181, NFL Network HD; 212, History Channel HD; 188, Lifetime HD; 213, CNN HD; 189, QVC HD; 214, Fox News HD; 190, Disney XD HD; 216, MGM HD; 191, Discovery HD; 222, AMC HD; 192, TLC HD; 223, Speed HD; 193, Animal Planet HD; 224, FX HD; 194, SyFy HD; 225, E! HD; 197,
Food Network HD; 226, Spike HD; 198, HGTV HD; 227, Cartoon Network HD; 199, National Geographic HD; 228, Nickelodeon HD; 200, A&E HD; 229, ABC Family HD; 201, Fox Sports Net Detroit HD; 230, Disney Channel HD; 202, ESPN HD; 231, WLAJ-HD; 203, ESPN2 HD;  232, WILX-HD, 205, HD Theater; 233, WLNS-HD; 207, Golf Channel HD; 234, WSYM-HD; 
208, Universal HD; 240, WKAR-HD; 209, Palladia HD; 244, CNBC HD, 211, Science Channel HD; and 257, ESPNews HD.

With this upgrade to Comcast's fiber-optic network, the company is making it easier for consumers to access the benefits of digital cable – superior digital picture and sound quality, interactive services like On Demand, more than 45 music channels, parental controls and the interactive program guide. The upgrade will also allow Comcast to increase the size of its On Demand library, which already offers digital cable customers more than 20,000 programs at any time, the vast majority of them for no additional charge.
