Woody Woodchuck Predicts 6 More Weeks Of Winter

MARION TOWNSHIP (AP) - Livingston County's resident weather-predicting woodchuck has indicated six more weeks of winter ahead.

WHMI-FM reports Woody (not pictured) emerged from a papier-mache stump Wednesday morning at the Howell Conference and Nature Center in Marion Township and quickly ran back inside.

The Groundhog Day prediction was the opposite of Punxsutawney Phil, the world's most famous groundhog.

About 20 people were on hand for Woody's 13th prediction. Officials say it might be the first time the prediction comes in the middle of a blizzard.

Howell Conference and Nature Center executive director Dick Grant has said that Woody has correctly picked winter's end nine of 12 times.
