New Appia Video Communicator to be Released

Traverse City-based Appia Communications last week announced a significant update to its market-leading video communication product, Appia Video Communicator. Version 4.5 will be available on Feb. 8.

"The new version provides better video compression, which helps address one of the main challenges of video -- that it uses a lot of bandwidth," said Victor von Schlegell, Appia's president. "Second, the new version includes managed configuration, which automatically configures the application for lower-end computers. Finally, we have added another set of eyes -- you can use another camera for product demonstrations, teaching, and other purposes."

The details of the release include:

* New, simplified user interface
* Second camera option
* Better video compression
* Better performance over wireless networks
* Intelligent configuration that automatically limits lower-end computers to only the features they can support
* Improved video routing to make calls more direct and efficient
* Intelligent self-monitoring and load-balancing to ensure service availability
* Improved interoperability with H.323 video conferencing systems

"We have also made it possible for resellers to brand Appia Video Communicator," continued von Schlegell. "With the explosive growth in video communication, this option will appeal to service providers and others looking for easy entry into the video market."
