STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) A 54-year old Sterling Heights man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly stabbing the family dog to death.

Police say Roman Laba  and his wife had an argument late one evening and she later went to bed.

When she awoke the next morning, she told police that her dog, named Lucky, had been knifed to death.

Lucky was taken to a veterinary hospital for emergency treatment of multiple stab wounds and died at the vet.

Laba has been charged with a single felony count of killing an animal.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 4 years imprisonment and a fine of $5,000.  Laba was arraigned and placed on $50,000 cash bond.

His preliminary exam is scheduled for February 9 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Maceroni.

Unbelievable. Hope Roman Laba gets the maximum sentence. That poor dog trusted his owner to protect and take care of him, not brutally stab and murder him. Sick, sick individual. Violence against an animal is typically the first step towards violence against people. Lock him up now before he does more harm.
