DETROIT (WWJ) – These brave women and men already work in the city of Detroit, and now, Mayor Dave Bing wants police officers to live in the city as well.

Bing has been pretty vocal about his desire to get police officers to move back into the city and now he’s taking action by announcing an incentive plan to get them to live where they work.

In 1999, the state legislature revoked a controversial rule that required Detroit police officers to live in the city.

Bing’s announcement takes place at 10:00am at City Hall. WWJ Newsradio 950 will be there to bring you all of the details on air and online at CBS

I’m all for it! some of the officer’s family still live in Detroit!! why wouldnt they want to be close to them, and protect the city they live in with a passion. The passion to care for the city and the people in it leaves when they leave …(police officers) just like some of the commend folk when they become suburbinites…. they have a tendency to look down the nose at detroit, and sometimes never admit they ever lived here. That’s what this is all about devide the people,(DETROIT & METRO DETROIT) WHEN IT’S SOMETHING BAD ITS DETROIT, WHEN IT’S SOMETHING GOOD IT’S METRO DETROIT.

The resource’s of elite schools and stores and most businesses are steered outside the city to encourage people to move away from the city and at the same time depleting our tax base.Look at it this way…. take away the axsle of a wheel and the wheel falls apart, once they take over the water board the suburbinites wont have a problem sustaining themselves but without it they hurt when we hurt. THE POWERS TO BE WANTS US LIKE CRABS IN A BARREL…. EVERYBODY CLAWING AT EACH OTHER AND NOBODY GETTING NO WHERE. ( LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE PEOPLE) TAKE THE BLINDERS OFF SUBURBINITES

  3. Jim says:

And maybe your criminals who live in Detroit should “work” in Detroit rather than the suburbs. Fair is fair!

    1. AL says:

You have a point there, your criminals and our criminals, my GOD everything I said just went right over your head. Some people just dont want change. EZEKIEL12:1-28

insurance co. are the problem in detroit. less costly in the berbs. house/car whatever.

    1. al says:

You are so right John, RED LINING IS WHAT IT’S CALLED. The berbs is considers the elite, because if you could afford to live out there then you were somebody, the content of your ………… you can finish that one. There are car thieves in the berbs too. The property tax’s and insurance …. auto insurance should be the same across the board…… unless you are the type of person with a bad driving record, or have numerous claims on your home owners insurance.I think they should put a limit on how many claims you can have befor they call you a risk and cancel your policy. ACROSS THE BOARD in detroit or the berbs….. everybody get treated fairly.

The issue is safety. Ever hear of “reprisal”? Police officers declining to live in the city they work in is not a “problem”. In fact, it’s very common, due to the fact that they are often victimized by the criminals they have arrested in the past. Merely being “unlisted” doesn’t work because criminals get that information easily. Duh. I live in a small town near Brighton and there are 3 Canton cops in my subdivision. Plus a police chief from another city. It is not a matter of economics, but a far greater matter of safety. But it’s always about money to the Republicans.

    1. al says:

Yea you’er right (REPRISAL) in this world of technology any one can run but they cant hide, the computer has made this world very small, and if fear of reprisal is in their hearts then their on the wrong job anyway, and I dont mean to sound heartless!!! but they watch out for each other, their like soldiers and there’s a war on these streets, their crime fighters….they have to act like it. The only thing that makes their job unsafe is that they dont know who’s coming at
them, because the streets dont wear uniforms, it dont have to be someone they arrested before.

      1. Jille says:

Has it occurred to you that they have wives and children to protect?

  6. al says:

And thats in anything that they choose to do to make a living, we’re more likely to become victims than they are, the criminals can see them coming and go the other way… they catch us slipping and we will be in the news paper.I understand!!!! I have a family that I have to protect….but my family has to eat and I cant be afraid to walk out the door to go out and make living. I’m not being hard but it’s life dear.

  7. al says:

We choose our career, and we have to accept all that goes along with getting the job done.

    1. Jille says:

So Al are you saying when cops choose their life that part of their responsibility HAS to be living with their family within the city that they work in? Are you aware many teachers in the higher levels of education also choose to live in a city other than the one they work in? Should
it be their responsibility to also live in the
      city in which they work?
