Care House of Oakland County Gets $5,000 Grant
Sexual abuse survivors in southeast Michigan will benefit from a $5,000 donation made by Verizon Wireless to CARE House of Oakland
County, an organization that provides specialized intervention and treatment services to child victims of sexual and physical abuse.
The grant will help fund a group therapy program for teenage girls who are victims of sexual abuse and neglect. Group therapy for adult survivors of abuse also will be funded through the donation.
"We are extremely grateful for this grant," said Pat Rosen, executive
director of CARE House of Oakland County. "Because of Verizon Wireless' generosity and community awareness, CARE House will enhance its therapeutic services for abused children and their families."
CARE House of Oakland County provides many services to child victims of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse and neglect, including crisis counseling, individual and group therapy, and court advocacy.

forms."
The $5,000 gift was made possible by the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program, which converts no-longer-used wireless phones into support for survivors of domestic violence. Since HopeLine¹s national phone recycling and reuse program was launched in 2001, Verizon Wireless has collected more than eight million phones; awarded more than $10 million in cash grants to prevention and awareness programs nationwide; and donated more than 106,000 HopeLine phones with 319 million minutes of airtime to victims, survivors and domestic violence organizations.
Last year in Michigan, Verizon Wireless and the Verizon Foundation donated nearly $200,000 in cash grants to local domestic violence agencies and shelters.
HopeLine wireless phone donations are accepted at all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores across the nation, including all metro Detroit locations. Phones given to the HopeLine program are refurbished and resold for reuse or disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.
