ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A man was hit by a car Thursday morning while walking in the street along 12 Mile Road in Royal Oak.

Royal Oak Police Lieutenant Gordon Young tells WWJ the department received a call at about 6:30 a.m. saying that a man, who had not yet been identified, had been struck by a Chevy Impala near Cody Road.

Young said the 25-year-old driver was traveling eastbound on 12 Mile in the right lane when he struck the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing. Young said the man was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately known.

Twelve Mile Road was closed for more than two hours, following the crash, but has since been reopened.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
