Valentine's Day Gifts From The Hearth

When people think of Valentine's Day, they think about giving their sweetheart chocolate -- or roses.

But for one Detroit business, this day is all about showing the love to a special organization.

WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas reports that at 6:00am, customers were already walking through the doors of Avalon International Breads on West Willis. The more foot traffic, the better.

Co-owner Jackie Victor says 10% of all Valentine's Day proceeds will go to Alternatives for Girls. Special cookie and brownie boxes are available.

"We've been admiring their work for many years. When we were thinking about this concept of looking at Valentine's Day as a way that we show our love for the community, not just our love for individuals, we felt like Alternatives for Girls was the perfect place to start," Victor said.
