Local Judges Host Teen Drinking Forum
ROCHESTER (WWJ) - Three Oakland County district court judges are talking with teens Tuesday about drinking, hoping to get to them before they wind up in their courtrooms.
Teens have gotten the message from parents, teachers and others that drinking and driving is a bad idea. Not to mention the fact they are not legally old enough to drink. Tuesday night, young people and their parents will hear from the judges who deal with the consequences of drinking and driving in their courtrooms.
"By providing this information directly from the judges who see and hear about this on a daily basis will help parents, and definitely the youth, understand that's not where they want to be. They need to follow the rules," says Julie Brenner of the North Oakland Community Coalition.
Brenner says the judges will also have a message for parents who host graduation parties where alcohol is served. "We actually support a program called 'Parents Who Host Lose The Most', making parents understand that while they think it's cool to be providing for the kids and not paying attention to whether or not they're taking part in what is there for the adults - there are consequences for that too," says Brenner.
The court night is from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the 52-3 District Court in Rochester. The event is free and open to the public.
