R&B Star El DeBarge Enters Rehab

DETROIT (AP) – R&B star El DeBarge has entered a rehabilitation center and dropped out of a national tour with KEM and Ledisi that’s scheduled to kick off Friday in Texas.

The 49-year-old singer said in a statement he hates to disappoint his fans, but voluntarily checked into the center “to deal with issues stemming from many years of substance abuse.”

He has battled drug addiction for the past two decades.

The Michigan native headed up the group DeBarge, which hit it big in the 1980s with No. 1 hits such as “Time Will Reveal” and “Rhythm of the Night.”

El DeBarge triumphantly returned last year with the release of “Second Chance,” his first album of new music in 16 years, earning two Grammy nominations for his work on the record.

I pray that El DeBarge gets everything in order because being a fan of his, i really don’t want to see such a wonderful and very talented man such as him be a statistic to the bad influences that are around him. To All El DeBarge fans, PLEASE don’t give up on our boy El. And to El, We love you and wish you get well soon so we can see you!

I also send up prayers that El DeBarge gets well soon. He has so much to contribute to his family, friends and to the people that love his music. I really love the “Second Chance” CD. Great Job!!!! El, may I suggest that you read the book of Romans? Be blessed.

El will be back! Just think about if it was you that had been using drugs for 2 decades, you would also have to deal with the recovery end of it. It’s hard, but with the Lord “All Things are Possible!” El knows this because he reads the bible and grew up in church.

El , my friend, please know that you are going to be ok and that God gave you that wonderful music talent to bring love to the world. So just let go and let God do a miracle in you because he (God) that started a good work, will complete it in the end! Let your gift of music “make room” for you in this hurting world. The world is waiting!

    Hugs & Love,
