Reward Offered In Teen Girl's Murder

DETROIT (WWJ) - CrimeStoppers of Michigan has teamed up with the Detroit Police to help solve the murder of a teenager last November on the city's east side.

Sergeant Kenneth Gardner says 16-year Keyasha O'Neal was murdered near Robinwood and East Seven Mile on November 28.

Gardner said investigators believe someone saw something or heard someone talking about the murder.

"There was at least three males in the area at the time when the shooting occurred. We believe that the persons... living in the area may have some information concerning these individuals that were seen during the time of the shooting," Gardner said.

Keyasha's mother, Deborah O'Neal, said her daughter was a chronic runaway -- but said the girl was on her way home the evening of her death.

"She got cold. She went to walk back to where she came from. And, before she made it back to where she was going, someone shot her in the back of her head -- and, in that area, all the (street) lights are out," O'Neal said.

Police are not saying much about a motive, but they do not believe that this was a random shooting.

CrimeStoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.  As always, tipsters can remain anonymous and the reward will also be awarded anonymously. The number to call is 1-800-SpeakUp.
