MACOMB (WWJ) – A Macomb County woman accused of drugging her 12-year-old son to make it appear he had cancer has pleaded no contest and faces sentencing March 29.

Carol Schnuphase of Roseville made the plea in Macomb County Circuit Court.

The 47-year-old now stands convicted of fraud and second-degree child abuse. Authorities say Schnuphase drugged her son, and shaved his hair and eyebrows.

A prosecutor says she received $7,500 from a church fundraiser, besides other donations. The money was used to pay bills.

Her son is now in foster care.
