Suspect Arrested In Craigslist Murder

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of 19-year-old Johnathan Clements. Hazel Park police have arrested a Detroit man in connection with the murder Clements who was killed while attempting to buy a cell phone from someone he connected with on Craigslist.

Hazel Park Police Chief David Niedermeier says they picked-up the suspect, 23-year Alexander Lyons fairly quickly.

"One of the ironic things in this case, is the same technology that led the killers to the victim, also was able to lead the police to the killer. He was taken into custody  relatively quickly. This was a quick ... investigation, we had him in custody almost within a day of the homicide," Niedermeier says.

Lyons has been charged with homicide, felony murder, and possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony.  He's been arraigned and is being held without bond.

Clements funeral is Monday in Washington Township and family members have set-up a memorial fund through TCF Bank to help cover burial costs.
