Working In High School Can Short-change Students' Future

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Is it good for high school kids to have a job? If so, how many hours a week should they work?

A brand new University of Michigan study says having a job during high school, in general, is good for kids. But, they say the students should try to keep their work hours under 15 a week, on average.

The U of M study says students who work more than 15 hours a week during high school have lower rates of college completion and they seem to get hooked on cigarettes more, too.

The study appears in the March issue of Developmental Psychology.
