Road Commission Working Through Night To Combat Winter Storm

DETROIT (WWJ) - The snow and ice are causing some pretty bad road conditions for drivers and the salt trucks and plows are out across Metro Detroit to clear the roads.

WWJ spoke with Craig Bryson with the Oakland County Road Commission, who says they've got all their man power out trying to clear the roads.

"We'll work all night long and try to get the roads in as good as shape as possible for the morning rush hour," Bryson says. "Then we'll stay out in the day as long as we can until we start losing drivers when they reach their 16 hour shift and then we'll send them home to get some rest."

Bryson notes that because the snow is coming down so hard, they're having a little difficulty keeping up. "We have very limited tools that we can use, plowing and salt are basically are our two tools. We are doing both of those as quickly as we can, we will continue to salt as the freezing rain comes and that's about the only thing we can do," says Bryson.

Bryson says they plan to work into the night so roads are clear for rush hour. But he says, they also expect to work into Monday night as well.
