Detroiters React To State Of City Address

How are Detroiters reacting to Mayor Bing's State of the City address?

WWJ City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas took an informal survey the morning after Bing delivered his address live from Orchestra Hall. Detroiter Neal Washington applauded the mayor and his message. He believes the city is on the right track.

"I been living over here for 20 years and I love Detroit. I wouldn't move for nothing in the world," Washington told Vickie "But we all need to come together and get together and revive our own city and put it back. Just like Oakland County -- Southfield -- I mean, this is Detroit. This is the diamond we talking about. Everybody wants Detroit. Everybody wants to come to Detroit, but we got to put it together ourselves before we can get anybody else to come in our neighborhoods and look."

Vickie also talked to a woman who moved to Detroit from Mississippi 40 years ago. She told Vickie she watched the State of the City address, adding that she really enjoyed it. The woman believes the mayor is doing a great job. Her biggest concern, she said, is getting police officers to move back into the city.
