Guillen Continues To Recover From Knee Injury

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Detroit Tigers second baseman Carlos Guillen continues to recover from a left knee injury that ended his season in mid-August last year.

Manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday that Guillen was sore after Tuesday's workout. The Tigers' three-time All-Star hasn't played in more than 113 games since 2007 and spent three stints on the disabled list last season.

Guillen is fighting for the second base job with Scott Sizemore, who struggled last season after winning the starting position out of spring training, and Will Rhymes, who batted .304 in 54 games in two stints with the Tigers after being called up in late July.

Guillen said he will be ready for Friday's spring training opener against Florida Southern College.
