Computerworld Honors Ann Arbor IT Director: IDG's Computerworld announced the city of Ann Arbor's IT Director, Dan Rainey, as a 2011 Premier 100 IT Leaders honoree. According to Computerworld, this year's Premier 100 spotlights 100 award leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership, innovative ideas to business challenges and effectively managed IT strategies. In 2010, Rainey and his staff were instrumental in key technology projects that improved city service efficiencies as well as increased access to citizen information online. These projects included the successful launch of an Open Data Catalog that made information easily available and helped foster open government and increase citizen engagement; introducing online utility bill presentment and payment system to provide 24/7 access and avoiding paper bills; adding social networking through e-mail subscription management, Facebook, Twitter, Animoto and Foursquare,; integration of an online permitting and development records system, called eTrakIt; and implementation in five months of a new scalable financial management system, New World's  Logos.Net. James Sommers wins 2010 HDI Midwest Region Analyst of the Year: James Sommers, a Senior IT Service Desk Analyst at Volkswagen Group of America and 2010 HDI Motown Analyst of the Year was named 2010 HDI Midwest Region Analyst of the Year. To win this award, Sommers competed against 12 other winners from HDI local chapters in the Midwest Region. He will go on to to the 2011 HDI Conference and Expo in March for the final round of the competition against winners from HDI's six other regions for the 2010 HDI Global Analyst of the Year Award. Volkswagen Group of America IT Service Desk named Finalist for HDI Internal Team Excellence Awards: The Volkswagen Group of America IT Service Desk named Finalist for HDI Internal Team Excellence Awards. The international competition centrally managed by HDI's Corporate Office in Colorado Springs started with over 50 submissions for both internally and externally focused Service Desk organizations. The short-list of 15 was announced back on December and included companies like Technisource, The Ohio State University Medical Center, Telus, Red Hat, BDO, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, Office of Legislative Council, and others. VWGoA's IT Service Desk Team will attend the 2011 HDI  Conference and Expo to compete against two other internally focused service organizations for the 2011 HDI Internal Team Excellence Award.
