Flu May Have Killed 2 In Genesee County

FLINT (AP) - Genesee County Health Department officials say two people have died this year from apparent flu-related illnesses.

Health officer Mark Valacak said Friday that no further information was immediately available about the 1-month-old and 55-year-old from Genesee County who tested positive for influenza.

No cause of death has been determined.

Valacak urged the elderly and people handling children younger than 6 months to be vaccinated. He said infants at that age are not eligible for the vaccine.

Michigan Department of Community Health spokeswoman Kelly Niebel says state officials are currently seeing "quite a bit of flu'' throughout the state but vaccine supplies remain readily available.
