Sentencing In Beating Of Blind Man
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - A 23-year-old Clinton Township man has been sentenced to five to fifteen years in prison for his part in the beating and robbery of a blind man.
Before sentencing, David Anderson apologized for what happened to the victim, last August, who was assaulted and robbed by a group of people including his brother.
"I did tell them where the money was, to keep him from taking any further assault," Anderson said.
The victim, Daniel Perron was walking in Mt. Clemens near the Gibraltar Trade Center when he was approached and attacked -- beaten with is own cane.
"I never hurt nobody and I don't think people should go around hurting people. I'm not malicious against anybody, I don't see why people would do this and I think people should live in peace," Perron said.
Perron, who is legally blind, said he still has nightmares and becomes afraid around large groups of people. After the sentencing, Perron said he hoped Anderson would get help behind bars and turn his life around.
"I don't want to see this happen to me or anybody else... and I wouldn't want to see anybody else go through, you know, and get beat up or robbed like I was," he said.
Anderson's attorney says his client had no part in the beating, though he pleaded no contest to the charges. He said his client was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Circuit Court Judge Peter Maceroni said there is no defense for what happened.
