In her questions to potential jurors, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway asked how many had been victims of crimes, had ever been convicted of a crime, or had family or friends convicted of crimes.

WWJ's Pat Sweeting reports that several raised their hands, but said they could remain impartial if selected for the jury.

After a portion of the jury pool was dismissed, Judge Hathaway, along with an assistant prosecutor, later spent nearly two hours instructing potential jurors in the areas of fairness, impartiality and deciding a case based on evidence.

One juror was dismissed after she told the judge she worried about serving on this particular jury because of friend who often speaks of her worries about the safety of her daughter who is a police officer.

Huff was a 12-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department.  He was married with a ten-year-old son.
