Feminist Manifesto

I had an interesting conversation this week with Anne Doyle.   (The daughter of WWJ's beloved Vince Doyle.) Anne was Detroit's  first FEMALE TV sportscaster.  She's been a top level manager at Ford.  Now she's a city council member in Auburn Hills.

Mostly she's a feminist, and has written a book  called  "Powering Up, How American Women Achievers Become Leaders."

On leadership, Doyle says if you want to become a high achieving woman you need to (among other things):

 1. Discover your purpose

2. Raise your voice

3. Break the rules

4. Claim power

5. Drink at dangerous waters

6. Get back in the saddle.

I asked her what "Drink at Dangerous Waters" means.

Doyle says "It means a willingness to take risks, repeatedly getting out of your comfort zone, an ability to work across gender, cultural, racial , and political lines with people who think differently from you and even the ability to work with rivals or people you don't particularly like."

She also says that many women seem as though they're waiting to "be invited to the leadership party."

Don't wait.  The invitation isn't coming.

Doyle believes she will see a woman elected President of the United States in her lifetime.

Will it be Sarah Palin?

Doyle says "The deal with Sarah Palin is she is definitely, in my opinion a leader, no question about that.   But I don't believe she's qualified to be President of the United States, and I don't believe in supporting someone for a position because of their gender."

Doyle is a smart, assertive, CAN DO kind of person.  She is a bright light.   I don't agree with everything she says, but I like her very much.

Check her out at INFORUM's big luncheon tomorrow (Thursday) in Dearborn at the Hyatt Regency.
