Blowout Music Festival Takes Over Hamtramck

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - It's the 14th year for what organizers call the biggest local music festival in the country. The Metro Times Blowout is back in Hamtramck featuring close to 200 metro Detroit bands at 14 venues throughout the city. The event spans four nights, March 3-5.

Brian Smith of the Metro Times tells WWJ this event is uniquely Detroit. "You need to go to experience it. It really truly is a celebration of what's going on in Detroit right now," says Smith.

According to Smith, the Blowout runs the gamut in music from jazz and pop to hip hop, blues, country and tons of indie. "Basically it's a celebration of Detroit music and it covers a respectable amount of genres," he says.

And while the event now draws thousands out to local bars and clubs, Smith adds that the music festival didn't start out that way. "It grew from this really little grassroots seed into what it is now," says Smith.

Pre-sale wristbands are available throughout the Blowout festival at the locations listed below. However, only cash payments will be accepted for wristbands purchased during Blowout.
