Missing Ice Fisherman Found Safe

HARRISON TWP (WWJ) – It’s a story with a happy ending, but it certainly didn’t start out that way.

They searched for nearly an hour, looking for a 78-year old ice fisherman. Federal, state, county, and local officials searched the icy conditions of Lake St Clair near Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township.  But the man was nowhere to be found.

Police say the man and two other men were returning to a boat ramp around 7:30 Wednesday night, when he apparently got separated from the other two.

The man said he lost his direction and couldn’t find his companions.

Macomb County Sheriff Tony Wickersham told WWJ, the man apparently had no idea that the search party was looking for him.

Besides being a little cold, the man was okay and was later reunited with his fishing buddies.
