Red Wings Report: Notes, Quotes

--The Wings were upset that Bobby Ryan was awarded a penalty shot in overtime when referee Steve Kozari ruled he was tripped by Ruslan Salei on a breakaway. Salei doesn't believe the call was warranted but said he wasn't surprised it was made after he put his stick on Ryan's left hand. Goaltender Jimmy Howard and others believe Ryan simply tripped on his own.

--D Jakub Kindl's progress has delighted coach Mike Babcock, who says the rookie's play from the start of the season to now might be the "greatest transformation" he's ever seen. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Kindl is playing with more poise and has been more physical lately. He has filled in well for injured players, appearing in 32 games. But Kindl will be a healthy scratch when Brian Rafalski returns to the lineup.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"It's a bad call, he knows it, he saw the replay. (Bobby Ryan) fell on his own, he tripped, just toe-picked. But things happen out there fast, he might have (seen) it differently. You could even tell on the replay, one arm on the stick, he just barely touches him. It's unfortunate the call was made." -- Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, on the penalty shot awarded to Bobby Ryan in overtime.
