Michigan Works! Program Could Be In Jeopardy
DETROIT (WWJ) - The people who help the unemployed find a job may soon be looking for work themselves if the U.S. Senate agrees to cuts approved by the U.S. House.
The House has cut more than $3.6 billion in funding for the Workforce Investment Act, which accounts for nearly $5.5 million in funding for the Michigan Works! agency.
Officials say the cut would force MichiganWorks! to close its doors.
MichiganWorks! is currently providing tuition and scholarship money for retraining for 700 to 800 residents in the state who have been laid off.
The bill will now go up for a vote in the House.
