Death In Dearborn Heights House Fire

DEARBORN HTS. (WWJ) - A Dearborn Heights resident is dead after a fire broke out in her home.

A fire quickly swept through the home of 69-year-old Patricia Tomkowski, killing her before she could make it out. The incident happened Friday evening in the 25000 block of Lehigh Street in Dearborn Heights.

WWJ's Chrystal Knight said authorities have yet to comment on the cause of death, but it appears that Tomkowski may have died from smoke inhalation.

According to a report, the fire chief said there were no working smoke detectors in the home and that could have been the difference between life and death.

The cause of fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Dearborn Heights Police at (313) 277-6770.
