M-39 Closed On March Weekends

DETROIT (WWJ) - During the first three weekends in March, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close both directions of M-39 Southfield Freeway in order to safely demolish overpasses.

Each weekend closure in March will occur between M-153 (Ford Road) near Dearborn and the M-10 (Lodge Freeway) interchange in Southfield.

Entrance ramps to M-39, including the ramps at the I-96 interchange, will begin closing each Friday at 8 p.m. During the full closure, all M-39 traffic will be detoured to US-24 (Telegraph Road). After 5 a.m. each Monday, all traffic lanes will reopen on the M-39 freeway.

MDOT is overseeing the $80 million construction project. In all, 24 bridges will be rehabilitated and more than three miles of the Southfield Freeway will be reconstructed this year.

For the latest from the roads, stay with WWJ Newsradio 950 for Traffic and Weather on the 8s, 24 hours a day. Current traffic info is also available anytime at this link.
