Matt Dery's Daily Update 3-8-11

Joel Zumaya does not have any structural damage in his sore right elbow. The Tigers announce today that those are the findings of Dr. James Andrews who examined the reliever on Monday. Zumaya will be shut down for at least another week and it is unlikely he would be ready to start the regular season on the active roster. The Tigers say he'll begin a throwing motion program before he enters any spring games. The Tigers will face the Marlins on Tuesday in Lakeland. Leyland will give Max Scherzer the start.

The Red Wings got back to practice today. Chris Osgood was hoping to be back for tomorrow night's game against the L.A. Kings after practicing today. Mike Babcock is going to go with Jimmy Howard tomorrow. Brian Rafalski is also out.

Yahoo Sports is reporting today that Ohio State Football Coach Jim Tressel knew of his players selling memorabilia to a tattoo shop owner 8 months before the school began investigating. This could lead to another NCAA investigation. Tressel is expected to address the media tonight at 7pm.

Oakland University is hoping to punch their ticket to the NCAA tournament tonight. The Golden Grizzlies play Oral Roberts in the Summit League Championship.
