Wow Completes Birmingham Construction

Wow Internet Cable and Phone, formerly known as Wide Open West, said Tuesday that it has completed installation of its fiber optic cable network in Birmingham, giving residents of the city a new choice for high-speed Internet, cable TV and phone service.

With its metro Detroit headquarters in Madison Heights, Wow obtained a cable franchise for Birmingham last fall. Construction began shortly thereafter and Wow started connecting its first Birmingham customers in January.

Wow has already invested more than $4.5 million in Birmingham with this expansion, and will continue to invest in the community as its customer base grows.

"The customer demand for our products and customer service is much greater than we expected," vice president of technical services Floyd Armstead said. "We feel very fortunate to be able to serve the residents of Birmingham and offer them an additional choice of providers."

Wow is widely recognized for its commitment to customer service, having earned top honors over the years from a number of highly regarded, independent sources such as Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates.

"The welcome we have received from the residents of Birmingham has been tremendous," said senior vice president and general manager Mark Dineen. "I have received notes and emails of appreciation expressing thanks for enabling them to join the rest of our Michigan family of customers. We're very proud to be a part of Birmingham."

Earlier in 2010, Wow announced plans to expand into three communities adjacent to the 42 communities the company has already been serving for over a decade. In addition to Birmingham, these include Grosse Pointe Woods, which Wow expects to complete spring, and Gibraltar, where construction will soon begin.
