Deadly House Fire Kills 2 Sisters

DETROIT (WWJ) - A deadly house fire on Detroit's east side kills two small children.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas says it's an emotional scene where two young girls lost their lives in the fire on Rolf's Place, in the area of Mack Avenue and Van Dyke.

Battalion Chief Mike Burns says the father did manage to get out of the burning house okay.

"The father woke up, got the kids and, uh, got to the window and he jumped out," Burns said. "And the kids - he had instructed them to, you know, jump ... and he was gonna catch 'em, but for whatever reason, they never jumped."

Apparently, the kids' parents are engaged in a bitter divorce and each is pointing the finger at the other.

The fire is under investigation as a possible fire bombing.
