No Charges In Death Of Postal Worker

(Dundee, Mi-WWJ) No criminal charges are expected to be filed in the bizarre death of a Monroe County letter carrier this week.

Nancy Schafer died when a 500-pound slab of concrete fell on her as she delivered mail in Dundee Tuesday.

Heavy equipment was needed to remove the cement that crushed the 46 year-old resident of Dundee, who was talking on a cell phone to a co-worker at the time of the incident. Schafer was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

A Dundee Police spokesman says the concrete porch was being used to cover a cellar that had been sealed off from the rest of the house. Police have concluded that the incident was a tragic accident. No charges are expected against the owner of the house.
