Parents Questioned After Girls Die In Fire

DETROIT (WWJ) - Some new information is emerging in the investigations of a tragic fire on Detroit's east side that claimed the lives of two young sisters.

Police tells WWJ Newsradio 950 the father, Deonte Cook, has taken a polygraph test -- but they are not releasing results right now.  Officials said the mother, Rosetta Cook, initially agreed to the test, but later changed her mind.

Family members said the couple were in the middle of a divorce.

As their home burned, early Wednesday morning, the father made it out safely. The two girls,  10-year old Lataya and  8-year old Alaya, died in the house, on Rolfs Place near Mack.

Cook's sister told police that her brother jumped out of the window to show his daughters they would be okay to follow and then instructed them to jump into his arms. Cook said they were too scared to jump and he could not save them.

Officials have called the fire suspicious, but have not yet determined the cause.  The girls' father claimed the house had been fire-bombed.
