Praying For Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Thousands of local residents are expected to join together in prayer Thursday evening for the city of Detroit.

The massive outreach is a part of the EACH initiative - Everyone A Chance to Hear - which includes people from 400 churches and other organizations coming together over the next 40 days to pray for solutions to the problems facing the city.

Starting Thursday from 7pm to 8:30pm simultaneous prayer rallies will take place at five churches: Woodside Bible Church in Troy; Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Northville; New Hope Assembly of God in Taylor; Grace Community Church in Detroit; and Bethesda Christian Church in Sterling Heights. The prayer rally could draw up to 10,000 people, and will include live worship with prayer and devotional speakers featuring the national guest speaker Bekele Shanko from Campus Crusade International on a simulcast.

Other efforts of the EACH initiative include a rally at Comerica Park on April 16 and a march down Woodward Avenue to the Spirit of Detroit statue. Another part of the campaign kicks off Easter and focuses on community service projects - some of which will include medical care for the underserved, feeding the hungry and resource fairs.
