GENESEE COUNTY (WWJ) - The Genesee County prosecutor’s office is charging a man with shooting a bald eagle near his Gaines Township home.

A warrant has been issued for James A. Nelson. The 65-year-old faces misdemeanor charges of shooting an endangered species and reckless discharge of a firearm.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment has been investigating the shooting since last month when the eagle was found with a broken wing.
