Should Part-Time Officers Carry Taser Guns?

LANSING (WWJ) - It's a topic that has been heating up some debate -- should all police officers be able to carry Taser guns?

Currently in Michigan, full-time police officers can use the Taser gun but part-time officers cannot.

State Representative Richard LeBlanc wants to extend the Taser gun privilege to more in law enforcement.

"To bring into the fold, so to speak, those officers who are designated auxiliary or reserve," LeBlanc said. "Part-time, you know, less than the full-time certified officer, but those who are employed by police agencies."

LeBlanc said with the shortage of police officers, allowing the auxiliary officers to use the taser just makes good sense.
