DETROIT (WWJ) – As Detroiters look forward to Tigers opening day next month, one lucky high school will get a chance to be a part of the Tigers opening day and win a grant.
Comerica Bank is offering a $10,000 dollar “Grand Slam Grant” to high school baseball and softball teams to create, expand or improve their programs.
Acknowledging that many athletic programs across the metro area are being force to cut budgets, the grant will help supplement programs and provide needed support.
Thomas Ogden, president, Comerica Bank-Michigan says: “With so many schools cutting baseball and softball budgets, we felt this was a way to ensure deserving kids have the tools they need to enjoy America’s favorite pastime the way it was meant to be played.”
The lucky school will receive tickets to attend the Tigers opening weekend game on April 9, and someone from that school will get to throw out the first pitch of the game.
Public high schools in Wayne, Oaklnad, Macomb, Lenawee and Washtenaw counties are eligible to apply.
Hurry, the deadline for the completed application is 5 p.m. March 24.
The winner will be notified by April 5.
