Alice Cooper Gets Place In Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit-born shock-rock legend is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this evening.  WWJ Newsradio 950's Greg Bowman has more on the honors for Vincent Furnier, Jr. better known as Alice Cooper.

Oakland Press music critic Gray Graff says it's about time that Alice Cooper and his band got the recognition they deserve.

"They really were the innovators of shock rock and of theatrical rock and so for that alone they deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," says Graff.

Alice Cooper was responsible for a lot of great music that moved a generation - songs like: Eighteen, Schools Out, and No More Mr. Niceguy.

"He really is a (quiet and unassuming guy-offstage) born-again Christian, of course he went through some major battles with alcoholism but has been clean and sober for a number of years. His primary addiction is golf," says Graff.

Graff said Cooper helped to inspire many other rockers after him like KISS and Marilyn Manson.
